Opening ceremony
Each Olympic and Paralympic Games begins with an Opening Ceremony, announcing the start of the Games to the world and showcasing the best of the Host Country. Why not open London 2012 World Sport Day and Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week with your own amazing opening ceremony showcasing the best of your school?
There are certain elements that must feature in every Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, as outlined by the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Charter, and Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony, regulated by the Paralympic Charter. Not matter how big or small your opening ceremony is, remember keep it simple and appropriate to your World Sport Day and Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week activities. Don’t forget to invite your friends, family, community members and the local media to watch your opening ceremony.
London 2012 Mascot Dance
Wenlock and Mandeville are inviting your students to boogy on their way to the London 2012 Games and join in learning the London 2012 Mascot Dance. You can include a performance in your World Sport Day opening ceremony. Why not learn the dance as individual classes and come together on World Sport Day for a mass performance? Can your young leaders support other schools in learning the routine?

The London 2012 Mascot Dance has been choreographed by students from Get Set network schools, to the official mascot song ‘On a Rainbow’ by Tom and Carrie Fletcher. It features the themes of ‘welcome’ and ‘celebration’, along with dance moves representing Olympic and Paralympic sports.
