Get Set network college of the month for January 2012!
24 Jan 2012

St Patrick’s boys college in Northern Ireland is the Get Set network college of the month!

Enthusiastic students from Year 11, along with the school’s Young Ambassadors, were involved in a collaborative project between the PE and Technology departments. Working together as a team, the group set about to devise and develop a new emblem that incorporates the Olympic rings.

After careful consideration, the inventive pupils decided to make the rings out of plastic, using perspex glass to fix them into place. They then placed various sporting photographs in the background to provide a snapshot of college sporting life. The new design is on proud display outside the Gym. In attendance at the grand unveiling were boxing Olympic Medalists Hugh Russell and Paddy Barnes… who just happen to be past St Patrick’s College pupils! The special guests even brought their medals along for students and staff to hold, to demonstrate what can be achieved if you work hard and stay committed.

The college was selected as the Get Set network college of the month on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The college will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and they will receive a surprise visit from a London 2012 guest!
