Bilborough College is Get Set college of the month!

Over the last year, Bilborough College has kept its promise and has been promoting the Olympic and Paralympic Values both within the college and the local community.

The college has ran a number of exciting projects related to the Games. A health and diversity day celebrated cultures from around the world. The college invited a number of guest speakers who delivered sessions about Chinese culture, the languages and cultures of Europe and education in Hong Kong, China and Africa. There were also sessions teaching Bollywood Dancing, Latin American dancing and much more. The college has even ran a flames festival working with their local community. Over 142 primary school students got the opportunity to run with the 1948 Olympic Torch while learning about the importance of physical activity and the Olympic and Paralympic Values. When the Olympic flame comes to Nottingham next year, the college plans to run their very own torch relay again. The college have also delivered an enrichment programme focusing on introducing students to a range of Olympic and Paralympic sports. The sports that have been tried so far include Kayaking, Fencing, Archery, Table Tennis, Badminton, Boxing, Judo and Athletics. This year, the college is looking to introduce more sports including, Triathlon, Volleyball, Cycling, Diving, Trampolining, Handball and Wheelchair Basketball.

The college was selected as the Get Set network college of the month on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The college will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and they have won a visit from an athlete as a reward for their efforts.
