26 Oct 2011
St Catherine’s RC school runs a number of exciting projects related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games!
During the course of this academic year, students have been introduced to the Olympic and Paralympic Values through assemblies and a poster campaign. Every half term students from each year group are rewarded for demonstrating the Values in both lesson time and at school events.
The school has also been running Every Child Matter days, in which students experience different Olympic and Paralympic sports, such as Cycling, Handball, Archery and Blind Football, and learn about role models, fair play, team work, sportsmanship and the use of drugs in sport. St Catherine’s RC school have also taken the Values into other lessons. Students have been learning about the Black Power salute from the 1968 Mexico Games and year 10 students have created a 3D art installation inspired by the London 2012 Games.
The school was selected as a Get Set network school of the month on the basis of their outstanding blog posts describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The school will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and a surprise visit from a London 2012 guest!
