26 Oct 2011

Springwood Community Primary School is the primary Get Set network school of the month!

Springwood Community Primary School is committed to spreading the Olympic and Paralympic Values and engaging their students in a variety of Olympic and Paralympic sports!

Springwood Community Primary School has been celebrating the Olympic and Paralympic Values in assemblies every Wednesday morning. Each week one child from each class is selected for living one of the Values. They are presented with prizes and their name goes into a raffle which will be drawn later in the academic year. The students selected will receive a London 2012 Ticketshare ticket to go to the Games.

Every pupil at school has recently tried the Paralympic sport of Goalball and experienced what it is like to compete without the use of sight; they are planning to try sitting volleyball next! The school also runs a boys’ and girls’ non-contact boxing club, which has been recognised nationally for changing attainment levels within the school.

The school was selected as the primary Get Set network school of the month on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The school will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and they will receive a surprise visit from a London 2012 guest!

If you would like to be in with the chance to be selected as the ‘Get Set Network school or college of the month’ and are not already a member of the Get Set Network, then apply today and start blogging!
