London 2012 Paralympics

Navigation Primary School is a primary Get Set network school of the month!
24 Nov 2011

Navigation Primary School is committed to spreading the Olympic and Paralympic Values internationally and engaging its students in a variety of cross curricular activities in the build up to London 2012.

Recently the school held an Olympic art day, where the children created London 2012 inspired artwork using different media; they made flags by scrunching tissue paper and used Mod rock to create lifesize competitors.

The school has also been busy forming strong international links with schools in both Papua New Guinea and Rwanda. The students have produced a ten minute video about Navigation and its local community, as well as posters and fact files about the prospective GB Olympic and Paralympic teams. They plan to continue to communicate in writing and electronically with their link schools as the Games approach and they will be supporting their international teams at Games time.

Students also enjoyed a visit from a Gambian storyteller, who captivated the children with his stories and recounts about Gambia’s culture and way of life – this was followed up with Gambian inspired artwork.

The school was selected as the primary Get Set network school of the month on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The school will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and they will receive a surprise visit from a London 2012 guest!

If you would like to be in with the chance to be selected as the ‘Get Set Network school or college of the month’ and are not already a member of the Get Set Network, then apply today and start blogging!
