Get Set Network school of the month for May 2011!
27 May 2011
Ysgol John Bright are very proud to have been selected as the Get Set network school of the month for May 2011.
Here at Ysgol John Bright, we have been focusing on how the Olympic and Paralympic Values feature in everyday life and can help a variety of people become part of a strong community. As a school, we will be supporting Malawi, South Africa and the Great Britain team for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have links to partner schools in both Malawi and South Africa and keep in touch online with students from those schools. We run a wide variety of activities linked to the Games including a sports module linked to geography, ICT portfolios based on the Values, a ‘sporting heroes’ programme with primary schools, designing products linked to the Games and we have just entered the Get Set to exercise your taste buds competition in the hope that our recipes could fuel the athletes in London 2012.
As London 2012 approaches, the school aims for their students to fully experience the build up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games despite being a long way from London.
The school was selected on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The school will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and they have won a visit from an athlete as a reward for their efforts.
