A young Osbaldwick primary school pupil who is “inspirational” to his teacher and his class mates had the surprise of his life when he came face-to-face with Mandeville, one of the London 2012 mascots.

As part of the Get Set to shine a spotlight competition, Calum, was identified by his teacher for living the Paralympic Value of determination. This nomination in turn won Calum a surprise visit from Mandeville the London 2012 Paralympic mascot.

A teacher from the school described Calum as very passionate about all sport. Since the 2008 Olympics, Calum has had a desire to compete in the Paralympics and has actively sought out opportunities to compete in a wide variety of sports.

Calum has represented York at Boccia in the North Yorkshire Youth Games, he plays disability football and wheelchair basketball, with the newly established York Vikings wheelchair basketball club.

Calum lives by many of the Paralympic Values and really deserved his moment to shine!
