22 Jul 2011

Turnford school in the East of England have been selected as the Get Set network school of the month for July 2011!

Find out what a teacher at Turnford school had to say about their achievement…
‘Here at Turnford school, we have been increasing the awareness of London 2012 with staff, pupils and the community by organising events to mark significant dates. Most recently, 150 students took on the challenge of walking 26 miles from our school to Trafalgar Square to celebrate 400 days to go until the Olympic Games open in London 2012. The main highlights of the walk included getting a glimpse of the Olympic Stadium, visiting the White Water Centre in Hertfordshire and obviously the jubilation everyone felt when they reached their final destination and took photos in front of the countdown clock in Trafalgar Square. The walk really brought the Games to life for the students who showed a lot of determination and courage to complete the challenge. On 1 October (300 days to go), over 300 students will compete in all 26 Olympic sports over a non-stop 24 hour period!
We are very proud, to have been selected as the ‘Get Set network school of the month’ for July 2011.’

The school was selected on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The school will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and they have won a visit from an athlete as a reward for their efforts.
