Dawn House School students tour Olympic Park with the Communication Triathlon!
22 Jul 2011

Eight students from Dawn House School, Mansfield, were treated to an exciting tour of the Olympic Park.

The visit was arranged following the launch of the UK’s first national Communication Triathlon for schools. Dawn House school was selected in recognition of the school’s engagement with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a member of the Get Set network.

The Communication Triathlon, launched in March 2011. Through the programme, students from Dawn House School were invited to visit the Olympic Park. The school organised a competition to choose one pupil from each year group to go on the trip. Nearly all the students entered the competition, where they were asked to complete the sentence “I would like to go and visit the Olympic Park because…”

Angela Child, Dawn House School Principal said, “The competition to visit the Olympic Park as part of the Communication Triathlon, created a real buzz across the whole school. Very few people have the opportunity to visit the site so it was a very special day for our staff and students. They had lunch at the lookout view point and found out lots of information about the Park before their tour. All the students joined in the discussions on the tour and were keen to ask questions; a significant achievement for all concerned. The students are planning an assembly with pictures about the visit to the whole school. The trip has definitely created lots of excitement and engagement within the school for next year’s Games!”

One student, aged 16 years, said, “I enjoyed the bus tour because you got to see everything and the tour guide answered all my questions.” Another student, aged 14 years, said, “I learnt all sorts of things – like the different sports take place in different venues and not one.”

Schools taking part in the Communication Triathlon are encouraged to join the Get Set network by the 16 December.
