Bedford Academy, a member of the Get Set network are living the Olympic and Paralympic Values!
Today, students from the school took part in a London 2012 inspired enterprise day. 40 students from the Academy and one of their feeder schools challenged themselves by using the ‘Have you got what it takes?’ resources to pitch to become an approved pre Games training camp.
The challenge required them to undertake a process of decision making and to prioritise activity, all valuable skills for their future life and careers. Clear leaders were emerging in the groups and final presentations were made to a panel of judges.
Katie Huane, Regional project manager for the London 2012 Games who was present at the event and said “It was fascinating to see very real scenarios being worked on by the students. They were going through the same process that I have also had to manage across the region in terms of identifying our sporting offer and the teams to which this might appeal. The students were coming up against exactly the same challenges that our real life sporting venues have found themselves in, such as trying to understand what teams might want and need to support their training. 94% of the evaluation sheets collected from the children at the end of the event said that the activity had increased their awareness and excitement about the London 2012 Games.”
Katie went on to explain, “Being a Get Set network school provides tremendous benefits and additional opportunities beyond those available by just signing up to the programme. I’m off now to tell others about it and to challenge them to join the Get Set network!
