Jonathan Edwards visits Brighton
15 Jan 2011

Olympic Gold Medallist and LOCOG Board Member, Jonathan Edwards, made a special visit to Brighton to celebrate its ongoing success of initiatives linked to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Students from Coombe Road Primary School were lucky enough to get to meet the Olympian who presented the school with their Get Set network plaque. Coombe road primary school is the first primary school in Brighton & Hove to join the Get Set network.

During the visit, Jonathan also met students from Uckfield Community Technology College which is also a member of the Get Set network. The college showcased an Olympic style Festival which included opening and closing ceremonies, games and competitions.

Jonathan commented: ‘It was a delight to visit Brighton & Hove today to celebrate the success of its 2012 initiatives so far, and to see their work in action. We want as many young people as possible to be involved with London 2012 and having all these projects in place shows that the South East is really maximising the opportunities which are arising from the Games.’

Pauline Freestone, 2012 Co-ordinator at Brighton & Hove City Council commented: ‘It was a real privilege to have Jonathan visit Brighton & Hove today, to celebrate the success of our widespread achievements at a local level. The young school children were thrilled to be able to show Jonathan what their London 2012 educational programmes entail, and the Personal Best graduates were really inspired and impressed by Jonathan’s amazing sporting achievements. ‘

‘We are hoping that this visit from someone as inspirational and motivational as Jonathan will make all our hard work surrounding the Olympics more visible to the public, and raise the profile of the 2012 programme locally.’
