Students will team up with EDF Energy to work on Legacy Projects in London Boroughs.
Power of the Games to turn young people into Legacy Champions
11 Feb 2011
Ten colleges in East London have teamed up EDF Energy and youth action charity Envision in a three-year partnership which aims to use the inspiration of London 2012 to help transform the lives of students living around the Olympic Park.
Legacy Champions, which has received the London 2012 ‘Inspire mark’, will see EDF Energy help create a community and environmental legacy for the Games, working with young people through an intense six-month programme with 90 mentors. They will work on legacy projects in the London boroughs that are hosting events at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Gareth Wynn, EDF Group Director of the London 2012 Programme, said: “Legacy Champions will give hundreds of young people the opportunity to be inspired by London 2012 to do great things, building their confidence and skills as they work on important local projects.”
“As the first sustainability partner, EDF Energy is committed to helping with environmental and social issues by taking action and bringing the best out of people, which is exactly what Legacy Champions is designed to do. We’re really going for this – offering 90 employees as mentors to bring this challenge alive.”
