School of the month December 2011
21 Dec 2011

St Joseph’s RC primary school is living the Olympic and Paralympic Values by engaging students in a variety of cross curricular activities in the build up to London 2012!

St Joseph’s RC primary school have been designing logos and drawing objects related to the Games in art lessons, as well as writing poems in English lessons. Students have been applying the Values to their everyday lives and writing about how they use them. Pupils have been learning about Olympic and Paralympic sports and taking part in taster sessions, including offering an after-school handball club. Their aim is to get all students to be active members of the community. They are planning to run whole school sports events, including skipping competitions and yoga. Students are also learning about the importance of physical activity and awareness of healthy living.

The school was selected as the Get Set network school of the month on the basis of an outstanding blog post describing the activities that the students have been involved in. The school will receive a letter of congratulations from Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and a surprise visit from a London 2012 representative as a reward for their efforts.
