Former Olympic gymnast visits a school that is member of the Get Set network

Former Olympic gymnast and Commonwealth Games gold medal holder, Craig Heap visited South Tyneside today to inspire students at St Wilfreds RC comprehensive school and encourage surrounding schools to join the Get Set network.
Craig, has represented England over 100 times in various international gymnastic competitions. He visited St Wilfrids RC Comprehensive School in the North East which is a member of the Get Set network to talk to teachers and young children about sport and present the school with their Get Set network certificate and plaque.
Any school or college in the UK can become a member of the Get Set network and receive reward and recognition from London 2012. Schools that join the Get Set network before Friday 16 December 2011 will get access to exclusive rewards and opportunities including an allocation of free tickets to the Olympic and Paralympic Games for students aged 10-18. There is also the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to £8,800 to lead activities which encourage other schools to engage in the London 2012 Games.
The North East is currently 5th across the UK in terms of the number of schools that have registered joined the Get Set network.
Craig Heap said, “‘Sport can bring out the best in everyone and the London 2012 Games is a great opportunity for us to inspire a generation of young people. Schools that have already joined the Get Set network are already reaping the rewards and we want to make sure that schools in the North East don’t miss out on the opportunities on offer through the programme which closes for entries on 16th December 2011.
