BT have launched its Big Voice competition, giving students and young people across the UK the chance to win £1,000 to help produce a film around the themes of diversity and inclusion.
Students aged between 11 and 19 will work in teams in schools and youth groups to come up with a proposal for a film based on the themes of diversity and inclusion and get the chance to pitch their ideas to a panel of experts. Three film proposals from each of the twelve regions in the UK will get funding and support from local media colleges to produce their film. Regional heats will follow, during which the shortlisted films will be shown on giant screens in 19 city centre locations that form the London 2012 Live Site network. The winner will be awarded the top prize in a national awards ceremony in May 2012 and take part in BT’s Big Voice Film Festival.
Suzi Williams, Director of Group Marketing and Brand, said: “One of our ambitions as a London 2012 sustainability partner is to help create a more inclusive and sustainable society, and young people are at the heart of that. Through Big Voice we’re giving young people the chance to communicate the big issues that matter to them, and helping them to inspire and engage others in the build up to the Games.”
The project comes with a comprehensive set of video-based resources to guide and support students through their tasks, from teaching them how to have open-minded discussions and share different points of view to ways of reaching consensus. It will include material that will help them create collaboratively, as well as stimulation material on the range of possibilities under the umbrella of film. On top of all this there will be examples of real proposal documents from the film and television industry so that they can see how professionals package their ideas.
BT’s Big Voice is part of the Communication, Collaboration and Citizenship strand of Get Set + and participating schools are encouraged to join the Get Set network for even greater reward and recognition from London 2012.
