Sidmouth College has what it takes!
17 Oct 2010
Five finalists from across the country made a trip to the London 2012 offices for the final of ‘Have you got what it takes?’ on 15 October.
Laurence Jackson, Wilmslow High, Park House, Sidmouth College and Kirk Hallam School were all successfully shortlisted as finalists and invited to the London 2012 offices to pitch in the final.
The day started with a tour of the Olympic Park. Then the hard work began. The finalists had been set a brief to prepare a schedule of activities for a group of visiting young people from an Olympic County of their choice. As part of the day, the schools also had to interview Olympic Athlete Jenny Pacey and respond to a last minute risk factor. The five finalists then gave a five minute presentation to a panel of judges before a winner was selected. The quality of the presentations was fantastic and the judges had a tough job on their hands as a result.
Sidmouth College in Devon was eventually announced the winner, for their professional approach and use of the Olympic and Paralympic Values. The winning team will now go on a visit to the Olympic museum in Switzerland.
‘Have you got what it takes?’ is part of the Enterprise strand of Get Set + and aims to develop enterprise skills in 11 to 14 year olds by asking students to pitch to become an approved pre Games training camp.
Participating schools are encouraged to join the Get Set network for even greater reward and recognition from London 2012.
