Design a wetsuit!
24 Nov 2010
Inspire your students to design a wetsuit for STEM Challenge 5, and they could win up to £1,000 worth of equipment for your school.
- Do you teach Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) subjects to pupils aged 11-14 years?
- Are you looking for an extended project or a challenge for a club?
- Would you like to win prizes for your school?
Although triathlon has been an Olympic sport since 2000, paratriathlon has not yet appeared at the Paralympics. In preparation for the sport’s possible debut in years to come, Jimmy Goddard, one of GB’s leading paratriathletes, needs your help to bring home a medal!
The fifth STEM Challenge, sponsored by GE, asks teams to design a unique wetsuit for Jimmy. Your design could be the difference between success and failure, so get your thinking caps on, be creative, and maybe Jimmy’s medal-in-waiting could be a gold!
Students will work in teams to complete tasks directly connected to the D&T and Science curriculum for their chance to win the top prizes including up to £1000 of equipment for your STEM Club.
STEM Challenges are open to all pupils aged 11-14 years in registered state schools in the UK. Teachers must register their teams by 5pm on 17 January 2011. Competition entries do not have to be ready by this date – entries will be judged at a local session in February 2011.
