99 days to go until the Singapore Youth Olympic Games begin!

Celebrations across the Singapore left the world in no doubt that the city is in full swing for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) which will run from 14 – 26 August 2010.

The event will bring together 3600 athletes aged 14-16 from across the globe who will showcase their talent as they compete in 201 events in the 26 Olympic sports.

The 99 day countdown was marked by the unveiling of the clothing and uniform designs for all participants in the youth games, from competitors to volunteers and presenters. The newly opened and highly impressive *SCAPE Youth Space was abuzz with Singapore 2010 activities including a 3 on 3 basketball competition, sports try outs, games and performances.

The YOG aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect.

The Games also aim to highlight issues such as healthy lifestyles and the fight against doping by encouraging athletes to participate in a Culture and Education Programme where they will foucs on five key themes: Olympism, Skills Development, Well-Being and Healthy Lifestyle, Social Responsibility and Expression.

Opening and closing ceremony organisation is also well underway- both are due to take place on the world’s largest floating platform – The Float@Marina Bay.
