Greenwich schools join the network and take part in BP Trading Challenge Roadshow
11 Mar 2010

Two more Greenwich schools have joined the Get Set network and participated in the BP Trading Challenge Roadshow.

Pupils and teachers at John Roan and Eltham Green schools celebrated today when they were officially welcomed in to the Get Set network, in recognition of their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values. They join almost 200 other schools and colleges across the UK as members of the special London 2012 community, and will receive the right to use the London 2012 education logo as well as access to exclusive competitions and 2012 related opportunities over the coming years.

Paul Deighton, Chief Executive fo the London 2012 Organising Committee, who presented the schools with thier plaques and certificates said:

‘Pupils and students at John Roan and Eltham Green are excellent examples of how London 2012 is helping to spark young people’s imagination and inspiring them to get involved and make a difference. They have clearly demonstrated that London 2012’s education programme extends far beyond PE and sport and I hope they will motivate other young people to join their journey.’

Along with being presented with their plaque and certificate, the schools from the Greenwich area also participated in the BP Trading Challenge roadshow, which is a new resource for 14-19 year olds which develops pupils’ teamwork, decision-making and communication skills.

Paul Deighton joined students during the interactive, fast-paced session as they traded oil, reacted to market news via films and managed a budget whilst competing in teams. The roadshow gives students a taste of the competitive world of business whilst also considering some of the Olympic and Paralympic Values. BP has pledged to take the BP Trading Challenge Roadshow to every local authority across the UK by the start of the Games.
