Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week
7 Jun 2010

Over 700 schools across Scotland are taking part in Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week!

Sir Chris Hoy helped to launch the event in Edinburgh today and met over 600 children from nine schools in Edinburgh who took part in a range of activities, from staging an Opening Ceremony to athletics, tennis, football and a Parents Mile.

Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week, delivered in partnership with sportscotland – the national agency for sport, and part of Get Set +, is taking place from 7th – 11th June 2010.

Using the power of London 2012, the programme capitalises on the enthusiasm and appetite from young people inspired by London 2012 to take part in more sport.

Research released today by Bank of Scotland highlights that 84% of children surveyed across Scotland said that they would like their school to host classes or sessions where they could try some Olympic or Paralympic sports that they haven’t tried before. Children will be encouraged to try an Olympic or Paralympic sport that they have not experienced before. 57% say that having the next Games on home soil will inspire them to participate in more sport.

Don’t forget, if you’re taking part in Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week, tell us what you’ve been up to on your Get Set blog!
