The Young Ambassadors of Macclesfield SSP have won a Youth Sport Trust Regional Award for the innovative project entitled 'On yoUR Marks, Get Set, Go'.
Macclesfield School Sport Partnership -'On yoUR Marks, Get Set, Go!'
27 Jul 2010
This three year project has been fully organised and delivered by the Young Ambassadors of Macclesfield School Sport Partnership. The project aims to engage more young people in regular weekly physical activity, raise awareness of London 2012, raise awareness of the Olympic Values- Respect, Friendship, Excellence, and the Paralympic Values of Determiantion, Courage, Equality and Inspiration – great things to aim for!
The Young Ambassadors launched their project at Wilmslow High School and invited dignitaries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East, David Rutley MP for Macclesfield and Donna Hartley MBE, who is the Ambassador for Macclesfield SSP.
The Young Ambassadors also invited 7 Sporting Champions who spent the day visiting over 45 schools and 8000 young people across the Macclesfield SSP to encourage youngsters to get involved in physical activity and inspire them to do their best. The Sporting Champions were Chris Cook, Alex Danson, Jenna Downing, Craig Heap, Tim Prendergast, Kerry Jane Williams and Adam Whitehead.
As part of the project the YAs initiated the OnyoURMarks@20past12 dance activity in which over 8,000 young people participated in Macclesfield alone.
The 20 past 12 Project is a Youth Sport Trust School Sport Partnership/Young Ambassador National Initiative that happened in all schools across the country on July 2nd at 20 past 12. This was part of National School Sport Week, which is sponsored by Lloyds TSB Bank. The aim was to increase participation in physical activity and raise awareness of London 2012.
Fantastic work from the Macclesfield SSP Young Ambassadors!
