Construction crew meet Her Majesty The Queen!
3 Nov 2009

Primary school pupils from across the 5 Host Boroughs who are taking part in the Olympic Delivery Authority’s Construction Crew project were invited to the Olympic Park to meet Her Majesty The Queen and presented her with a posie of flowers!

After viewing the Olympic Stadium from a platform at the level of the highest spectators’ seat, Her Majesty then walked along a section of the 100 metre track and across what will become the finish line. Her Majesty then planted the first tree on the Olympic Park next to the waterways adjacent to the Stadium – a mature willow tree grown in Milton Keynes which is the first of over 300 trees that will be planted on the Stadium site.

The Construction Crew project gives forty Year 6 students from 20 local primary schools the chance to visit the Olympic Park throughout the year to learn about different aspects of the project. They’re also tasked with sharing the information with their friends, family and classmates.

They have recently learned about the archaeology and history of the Olympic Park site, and this month they’ll be finding out about sustainability and the environment in relation to the Olympic Park.
