Thursday 12 February marks just one year until the start of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. See how children in the UK have been marking the moment.
Vancouver counts down one year to go!
12 Feb 2009
London students have started a 4708 mile transatlantic discussion on what it is like to live in a Host City, what excites young people most about sport and how the preparations for a winter Games and a summer Games are different!
Student from Oakdale Primary School in Redbridge had already showed a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values and won a visit from Paralympian Tim Predergast for their outstanding Paralympic Handover celebrations.
As part of Tim’s visit, and to celebrate ‘one year to go’ until the start of the next Winter Games, the Get Set team worked with the organisers of the Vancouver 2010 Games to establish links between Oakdale and a primary school in Vancouver.
Pupils were given flags and mascots to help them celebrate and they made a film which the Vancouver 2010 organisers will be using as part of their very own ‘one year to go’ celebrations. See their film on the Get Set website very soon.
We can’t wait to hear all about what Oakdale’s pupils learn from their new friends in Vancouver.
