Adidas get into the 2012 zone
11 Sep 2008

Adidas are the Official Sportswear Partner for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and they have committed £1 million to help get young Londoners involved in sport.

They have launched five giant multi-sport outdoor venues called `adiZones` in each of the Host Boroughs (Tower Hamlets, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham and Waltham Forest) – with Tower Hamlets opening today.

The adiZones will be free for the community to use and will include basketball, football and tennis areas, a climbing wall, an outdoor gym and an open area for dance, aerobics and gymnastics.

A team of adizone Activators will work to get local communities, schools and sports clubs using the space. Local coaches will be encouraged to visit the sites to look for talent and encourage them to join a local club.

Christine Ohuruogu, 400m Olympic Gold medallist in Beijing 2008, officially opened the new site at Tower Hamlets and commented:

“The adiZones are wonderful spaces where young people can meet up, hang out and get involved in sport. Growing up around here, I know that the adiZones will be a really welcome and needed addition to the local community.”
