Olympic Stadium looking good
26 Aug 2008

New pictures released by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) show the structure of the Olympic Stadium beginning to take shape.

More than 100 columns have already been made to support the podium of the Stadium’s west and south stands. This also forms the lower ground floor of the West Stand, which is where athletes’ changing rooms and other back of house facilities such as doping control and treatment rooms will be.

The foundations for the Stadium are also nearing completion, with more than 3,500 of the 4,000 permanent piles installed in the ground.

On the south of the Stadium site 200 concrete supports are being made. These will support the 25,000 permanent seats in the lower level of the Stadium.

Work is also underway on the supports for one of the five bridges that cross the waterways around the Stadium island site. During the Games this bridge will be one of the main ways for spectators to reach the Stadium.
