The International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre is one of the 7 venue’s located within the Olympic park.

The International Broadcast Centre/Main Press Centre (IBC/MPC) will be a 24-hour media hub for around 20,000 broadcasters, photographers and journalists – bringing the Games to an estimated four billion people worldwide.

John Armitt, Olympic Delivery Authority Chairman said:

“This is the first time press and broadcasters will be based in the same area and marks a significant effort to make the best use of space within the Olympic Park.”

What’s inside?

  • The very latest IT facilities to send the news around the world in an instant
  • 12,000sqm catering village serving 50,000 meals per day
  • 200m long High Street with banks, newsagents, travel agents and a post office
  • 29,000sqm of ‘green’ office space with four storeys of workspace for journalists and photographers during the Games.
  • Transport Mall providing coach drop off and car parking.

Design features

It took just ten weeks to build the 4,500 tonne steel structure of the IBC, which is 275m long, 104m wide and 21m tall. That’s big enough to house five jumbo jets placed wing-tip to wing-tip.

The MPC includes state-of-the-art utilities, power and digital connectivity during and after the Games.

Problem Solving

The massive flat concrete roof of 2,500sqm is covered with gravel and moss to encourage invertebrates.

After the Games

The buildings are designed to be converted into business facilities after the Games to serve the community for years to come.
