Architect’s plan of one of the venues

Images of the venues

  • Talk about the purpose of an architect’s drawing. Not only does it give a vision of the finished building, but it includes all the technical details which the construction workers need. Imagine trying to build something without a plan!
  • Look at the architect’s plan and compare it with one or more images of the venue. Can you see how the plan relates to the images of the venue in construction?
  • Can you identify any basic geometric shapes in the plan?

Outcome

  • Make your own drawing of a building you are familiar with. Can you list the materials you think are used in construction? Have they included geometric shapes in their own drawing?

Extension

  • Find out what is meant by ‘utilities’ and where these would be placed in the building. Can you mark this on their plan?
