Challenge A – Resources for itinerary planning

You have received the following email:

10 representatives from the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games will be arriving next Wednesday 15th, at London Heathrow.
Flight details:
Wed 15th Depart Rio de Janeiro 1935 hours (Flight BG 1234).
Thurs 16th Arrive London Heathrow 1435 hours.
Sat 18th Depart London Heathrow 2055 hours (Flight BG 6789).
Sun 19th Arrive Rio de Janeiro 1435 hours.
They want to gain an insight into the following venues:

  • Olympic Stadium.
  • Aquatics Centre.
  • Velodrome.
  • IBC/MPC.
  • Athletes’ Village.
  • Energy Centre.
  • Parklands.

You need to:

  • Prepare a programme (with timings) so that all delegates will have an appropriate amount of time at each venue.
  • Plan the travel arrangements. This must include return airport transfers and transport for their stay. Delegates can be transported by coach for parts of their stay – but they also need to experience the improved public transport systems; for example, the Stratford Station upgrade, the DLR extension and improvements to King’s Cross/St Pancras. Include some public transport in your travel plan.
  • Propose three different hotels in suitable locations for their three night stay. The delegation would like to see different areas of London so have asked to stay close to London 2012 venues that are not on the Olympic Park.
  • Suggest restaurants .
  • Research evening entertainment that can be suggested to delegates to maximise their enjoyment of London.
