The Olympic & Paralympic Values

The Olympic & Paralympic Values

Kelly Holmes wins a race

Getting to the top in anything – not just sport – requires determination, courage and quite often a dollop or three of inspiration. The way we think, feel and behave makes up who we are as individuals.

Collectively, sports men and women striving to reach the Olympic or Paralympic Games try to live by the following Values:

Olympic Values

  • friendship
  • excellence
  • respect

Paralympic Values

  • inspiration
  • determination
  • courage
  • equality

It seems to us that these Values apply to everyone – not just top-class athletes. Few of us would argue for example, that equality is a good thing, or that friendships help us to feel good about ourselves and others. And let’s face it – none of us would get very far without a bit of determination every now and then.

Thinking about your own life, how would you say that one or more of these Values could help you now?

If you had a difficult decision to make, which of these Values could help you make up your mind?
