Creative Challenge 1 – You too can design a stadium

Creative Challenge 1 – You too can design a stadium

An artists impression of the inside of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium

Design your own stadium!

ODA Construction Kit resources provided

Look at images of the venues and to choose the one that inspires and interests you. You could:

  • Consider its purpose and function.
  • Describe what it looks like, and what’s special about it.
  • Identify where it is situated and why.
  • Think about environmental and sustainability issues.

Then draw plan and side views to scale using the drawing conventions seen in architects’ drawings.
Make a model of the finished stadium either 3D or using modelling software.
Demonstrate at least one aspect of the engineering involved e.g. construction, materials, shape, forces/load bearing. They could concentrate on just one part of the structure; for example, the roof (if it has one) seating, service areas etc. Will it be built on site or will it be prefabricated and assembled on site?
