Creative Challenge 1 – You too can design a stadium
Design your own stadium!
ODA Construction Kit resources provided
- Architect’s drawings showing different elevations.
- Images of different stadiums.
Look at images of the venues and to choose the one that inspires and interests you. You could:
- Consider its purpose and function.
- Describe what it looks like, and what’s special about it.
- Identify where it is situated and why.
- Think about environmental and sustainability issues.
Then draw plan and side views to scale using the drawing conventions seen in architects’ drawings.
Make a model of the finished stadium either 3D or using modelling software.
Demonstrate at least one aspect of the engineering involved e.g. construction, materials, shape, forces/load bearing. They could concentrate on just one part of the structure; for example, the roof (if it has one) seating, service areas etc. Will it be built on site or will it be prefabricated and assembled on site?
