Form a Get Set committee

Take the lead!
We want you, the students, to take the lead all the way so that the journey up to 2012 becomes not only the period that London hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also a time in your own life you can look back on and be proud of.
The Get Set network is your chance to make a real difference to your school and everyone in it, and maybe even your local community.
Why not form a special Get Set network committee to oversee the application?
Make sure your school is in the running!
Working as a team
Top tips for running a good Get Set network committee
Working as a team is always tricky, but here are a few guidelines to keep you on course:
- Make a time to meet or complete a task and stick to it. Set a time and a day and make it a priority. As soon as one missed meeting becomes two missed meetings, it’s really difficult to catch up. If a team is going to succeed, then it must work together regularly.
- Respect other people’s roles and opinions. You may have some good ideas for other members of the committee, but make sure that you don’t try to take over.
- Everyone is equally important. Make sure that all members are always equally involved, that everyone has a say. If decisions are made without all the members of the committee being present, then make sure that you have a way (email, minutes of the meeting or use the blog) to keep them fully informed.
- Begin at the beginning. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. Begin by looking at where your school is now. In what ways does it reflect any or all of the Olympic and Paralympic Values? Have you taken part in any special projects or events which could count towards your application?
- Which tasks and ideas are manageable? Which things could be started on straight away and which would need some groundwork first? Make sure that everyone has their own target to reach before you next meet.
- Make plans. Take your big ideas, and work backwards. Before they can happen, what needs to happen first? And what needs to happen before that? Make short, medium and long-term plans and make sure that everyone is clear about them. Prioritise.
- Share a joke…or food. There is absolutely no reason why hard work can’t be fun, especially when you are working with friends. Make sure that the time that you meet together is fun and not a chore.
