Modern Foreign Languages

Some practical ideas for using the London 2012 Games as the launch pad for creative enterprise projects linked to modern foregin languages.

Athletes march in a Ceremony.

The London 2012 Games provide a unique context for linking modern foreign languages (MFL) and enterprise education, with athletes from 205 countries taking part, speaking a huge range of languages.

Get Set has brought together a suite of resources to help you use the inspiration of the Games to engage your MFL students and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

You could use these resources to give any special student-led events you may be planning such as International Olympic Day – (23 June each year) or National School Sport Week (28th June-2nd) an international dimension.

Have you got what it takes?
Check out the Enterprise Strand and the Have you got what it takes? resource which challenges students to prepare a ‘pitch’ to host a Pre-Games Training Camp. Students could prepare a mood board as part of their ‘presentation pitch’ to a national team in their chosen language. Encourage them to be inventive in the way they can make a non – English speaker feel welcome.
