London 2012 is encouraging every school and college in the UK to support one Olympic team and one Paralympic team.
Do you know all of the competing teams? Why not find out about the Olympic team from Vanuatu or the Paralympic team from the Faroe Islands? Supporting teams from different nations will make the athletes feel welcome when they come to the UK. We need your help to inspire Olympic and Paralympic fan bases across the UK.
Use this resource to help your students decide which Olympic and Paralympic teams they would like to support in the lead up to and during the London 2012 Games. You can support a different Olympic and Paralympic team, or you can support the same team if they compete in both Games. Involve everyone and even extend the excitement to families and friends in your school/college community. Share the fun by running activities that celebrate each team’s achievements.

As you can imagine National Olympic Committees and National Paralympic Committees, and their athletes, are going to be very busy in the lead-up to the London 2012 Games. As a result, we would discourage you from contacting NOCs or NPCs directly. Instead, please tell us which teams you are supporting using our interactive map and we will let the relevant NOCs and NPCs know who is supporting them. They will be delighted to hear how many schools are following their preparations!
Remember, if you’re already part of Get Set, the exciting things you do that are inspired by the London 2012 Games will entitle you to join the Get Set Network. So tell us which teams you are supporting and what you are learning about them, and gain access to rewards and special opportunities.
More resources and information to help you support Team GB and ParalympicsGB will be provided through Get Set soon.
International Inspiration
Children from schools across Haringey are linked with schools in Trinidad & Tobago through International Inspiration. They have been sharing skills and knowledge in how to use sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Values to address issues such as gangs and aggression – themes common to schools both in Haringey and Trinidad & Tobago.
Abigail, a Young Leader from Hornsey School for Girls, said: ‘Having an athlete like Colin Jackson visiting our school is really exciting – especially as he can tell us about his experience in Trinidad & Tobago with our link school. Through International Inspiration, and our link with Speyside School in Tobago we have learnt about leadership skills, conflict resolution and how to work as a team.
