Frequently asked questions
Here are the questions that were asked most often during the consultation stages of the Get Set programme:
Will our recognition as part of the Get Set network enhance the work we are already committed to in our planning documents?
Yes, the programme is built on the premise that schools and colleges will be recognised for the excellent work they are already doing; work which could be shown to reflect some or all of the Olympic and Paralympic Values. Integrating these Values into your whole school planning and delivery will provide a focus and an opportunity for learners to take the lead. This is definitely not about re-inventing the wheel.
Go to the Case Studies area of the site to see examples of how this might work for your school.
Is Get Set all about sport?
No. Get Set uses the ‘turbo charge effect’ of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire children and young people to achieve new and exciting things in their own learning and social communities. This could include arts-based projects, environmental activities, making new links with other schools, an initiative involving respect or friendship… the possibilities are endless. The lynch pin is provided by a focus on the Olympic and Paralympic Values – rather than sport itself.
Go to the Case studies for examples of ‘Values-based’ projects already undertaken by schools and colleges.
We are a small, rural primary school miles from London – what has London 2012 got to do with us?
The Olympic and Paralympic Values are a central part of all schools, and can provide a refreshing focus for teaching, learning and improvement. Values such as friendship, respect, equality, determination and excellence apply to all schools, and even the youngest children can understand their importance. There will also be regular video updates about the developments in the Olympic Park and the people behind the scenes.
How much time will it take up?
As much or as little as you like. The Get Set network programme is extremely flexible, and the activities and plans can be completed in curriculum time, tutorial time or as a special day where normal timetables are suspended. You can take as much time as you like to complete each stage of your application, making sure pupils take the lead wherever possible.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Registration is freely available to all schools, colleges and complementary settings. All materials on the Get Set website are free.
Go to the registration area for more details.
I am a teacher in a Special School catering for children aged 2-19 with a range of significant special educational needs and disabilities. What can Get Set offer me?
The Get Set team is strongly committed to the inclusion of all children and young people aged between 3-19 in the programme. Already on this site there are three games which have been specially designed for children of all ages with additional needs:
• Match the sound
• Sound track
• Picture story
More materials will be added on a regular basis.
